Preview of Coming Attractions

My summer was FULL of travel, great art, life-changing experiences, and

mourning the death of an artist incredibly important to me. I HOPE TO (famous

last words) crank out blogs sharing these experiences over the next few weeks

before I travel out east AGAIN to Pollock-Krasner country.

A couple of outstanding exhibits I saw were at the Art Institute in Chicago and the

Speed Art Museum in Louisville. Louisville is an easy drive from where I live, and

my travel was rewarded with bourbon (DUH!) and one of the best exhibits I’ve

ever seen at the Speed Art Museum – Abstract Expressionists…the Women.

The other literal breathtaking exhibit was at the Art Institute – Willem de Kooning Drawing.

My other big travel adventure was not one but TWO trips back to New Mexico

and Georgia O’Keeffe country. My recent visit included a tour of the inside of Miss

O’Keeffe’s Ghost Ranch house…an opportunity not offered to the general public.

The last time I had my breath literally taken away and my mind blown like that

was when I visited Frida Kahlo’s House in Mexico City. So many O’Keeffe dots

were connected!

Finally, to end on a more somber but still celebratory note, Yayoi Kusama died in

August. Her life story, her art, and her struggles RESONATED with me. She was an

inspiration for me. I completed this painting within a week of her death and hope

to have a more detailed tribute to her soon.

Lots to say and lots to do, and I thank you in advance for sharing these experiences
