PRESS RELEASE!

Updated: Mar 26

How cool is this? A press release for Krista Swisher's Paintings!

EVENT: A One-Artist Show by Krista Swisher at the Southside Art League Off Broadway Gallery in February 2025. Krista will be exhibiting a collection of her innovative abstract paintings.

ARTIST: Krista began painting in 2018. She uses acrylic paint because it tends to be more forgiving with mistakes. She paints abstract works with little imagery because she uses color choice, brush strokes, paint thickness, paint application, materials, tools, etc. to show emotions, passions, or enthusiasms at the time of creation.

There is often not a particular subject in mind, but at times there is a color range in mind. When there are particular subjects in mind, they will be influenced by what’s happening in society and will often be reflected in the painting titles.

Materials used include brushes, pallete knives, rulers, the tops of prescription drug bottles for various-sized circles, stencils, and the end of chop sticks or dowel rods dipped in paint. Drip methods and flicking thin acrylic paint with an inexpensive plastic pallete knife are also used.

She will reuse canvases from previous works she feels do not have a lasting impact and wants to try something new in order to not waste the canvas.

Influential artists include Willem deKooning, Frida Kahlo, Lee Krasner, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Rothko.

Krista is a member of the Southside Art League (SALI). Since her first solo show there in May 2021, she has participated in group exhibitions there, has been part of group exhibitions in two shows at the Beyond Gallery in Lafayette, IN, was selected to be a featured artist at the SALI National Abstract Art Exhibits in 2022 and 2023, was a featured artist in a holiday show at the Greenwood Public Library in Greenwood, IN, and most recently was a featured artist at the Ten By Ten Exhibit at the Jackson Junge Gallery in Chicago, IL. She spent a few days in Springs Long Island, NY and immersing herself in Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner in October 2024 and is excited about a trip to Mexico City including a visit to Frida Kahlo’s Blue House in February 2025.

Krista is an Academic and Student Affairs Coordinator in the School of Science at IU-Indianapolis. She lives on the northeast side of Indianapolis with her husband and 6 cats. She loves reading non-fiction and biographies, traveling, and hosting trivia at Books & Brews every Wednesday evening.
