Great Art in the Land of Niagara Falls & Where the Buffalo Wing Was Born

Updated: Mar 26, 2025

It was my turn to pick our anniversary destination vacation in July, so I chose Buffalo, NY, and I’m SO GLAD I did! Yes, Niagara Falls is about 20 miles away and is awesome and LOUD. The Anchor Bar in downtown Buffalo is where the buffalo wing was created out of necessity in 1964 and eventually became a vital part of American cuisine. Oh, and did I mention the Frank Lloyd Wright House in town? Yes, Buffalo is fantastic, but I was not expecting its art museum to be the glorious experience it is – so much that I’ve paid for membership!

Admission to the Buffalo AKG Art Museum isn’t too expensive compared to other museums, and it is absolutely worth it. I didn’t get through all of it (but will when I go again by myself!), but it is one of the few museums I’ve visited that has my two favorite artists under one roof – Frida Kahlo & Jackson Pollock! Other favorites of mine that are there include the deKoonings (both Elaine AND Willem), Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler, Mark Rothko, and, in a great surprise, Francis Bacon.

If you prefer more of the “classics” in art, you won’t be disappointed. Sculptures by Edgar Degas & August Rodin are great. Impressionism is also well-represented by Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, George Seurat, Paul Gaugin, and Vincent VanGogh.

As I mentioned, I didn’t get through the entire museum, but if the rest of the collection is anything like what I saw in July, anyone who enjoys any kind of art will not be disappointed. I cannot wait to go back!

I’ve been following Krista and her amazing work for a while now and loved everything she created. They are always full of energy, and color and even attitude. As a former art director I knew I had to have one of my own. The only problem and its really NOT a

problem is that most were large scale works. I don’t have enough wall space! But when talking to Krista after viewing a specific piece, she made a promise, that she would create a piece similar in technique but of a smaller scale. I was thrilled.

And so, she presented me with this stunning abstract

expressionist piece that she titled as “Rew’s Sky”. It’s beautiful, full of energy like the artist herself and I love it. I’ve already received quite a few compliments regarding the work as now it’s hanging in a perfect location - our living room - to be gazed upon

for many years.

Krista was able to create a one of a kind for us. I know that she will do that for you as well.
